Confirmation

Our program begins in the Fall with a series of Confirmation Intake/Information Sessions for youth who are in 8th grade and older. Registration for our Confirmation Prep Program takes place at a Confirmation Intake Session. Please Note: Grades 6-12 Religious Education is not our Confirmation Prep Program and registration in 6-12 RE does not register you for Confirmation Prep. One of these Confirmation Intake/Information Sessions needs to be attended by the "Family Team" including; interested young person, at least one parent, and the youth’s sponsor (they all need to be at the same meeting). It is important for the sponsor, parent(s) and youth to attend together. Youth should secure their sponsor before this gathering. The Sponsor must be a confirmed adult practicing Catholic (but not their parent) and someone that the youth can relate to easily. We strongly recommend that the Sponsor be someone who the youth can meet with regularly, in person. If the sponsor cannot attend the Intake Session, please plan on making commitments to spend time with them to prepare! Below, you will find a list of available dates. You only need to attend ONE of the three Intake Sessions! Plan on staying for the entire session. We have scheduled several so we can offer more individual attention and to give you several options. The later sessions tend to be much more crowded, much more hectic and they take longer. Please try to attend one of the first sessions.

At the session, our program will be explained completely, materials will be distributed and an individual curriculum for each youth will be developed and agreed upon. We will also provide extensive information on the many activities and events that are part of this program. Bring all your family, school, sport and personal calendars, as we will be agreeing on, and scheduling, many dates. Also, bring the youth’s Baptismal Certificate to this Intake Session. Plan on arriving a bit early and staying for the entire session. Confirmation is, of course, a Sacrament of Initiation. We have set up our prep program to help initiate our young people more fully into our parish and Church. For this reason, the program is set up to maximize the initiative and responsibility of our youth. Youth should primarily responsible their own participation in this program. Our program relies on strong sponsor and parent relationships and involvement and we work to draw youth into the life of our parish community. It is designed to “immerse” youth fully into parish life. Hopefully, we have avoided methods and content that might have the youth believe that they are somehow "graduating" from religious education, or formal faith formation. Youth should remain in Religious Education during Confirmation Prep and throughout middle and high school. Faith formation should be pursued our entire lives.

We look forward to meeting with you and your family at one of these four Intake Sessions. They tend to last about 1 ½ hours, depending on the number of participants. Arrive a few minutes early to sign-in and get settled, we want to start on time. Plan on everyone staying for the entire session. Please do not wait until the last minute, the last two sessions tend to last longer, be more crowded and much less personal!
