Annointing of the Sick
The Sacrament of Anointing is the Church's celebration of the healing power and presence of Christ that continues among his disciples today. This sacrament is designed for healing
and strengthening of both body and spirit, and it is recommended that the faithful celebrate it as soon as they face a serious health condition. The custom of waiting until one is on the deathbed to receive
the sacrament is discouraged, since it is meant to be a sacrament of healing, not a sacrament of the dying.
Anointing of the sick is celebrated in a variety of ways at St. Rose: For those confined to home or hospital, a call to the parish offices (301-948-7545) is all that is needed to arrange for a visit by the Pastor and the celebration of anointing. Ideally, however, the sacrament is celebrated in the midst of the community at one of our Eucharistic celebrations, either on Sunday or a weekday. To arrange for such a celebration, call the parish offices. Those who are anointed, frequently face a period of recovery when they will be homebound. During that time, our Caregivers Ministry provides a range of services, from bringing Holy Communion to providing rides to doctors, grocery shopping, etc. For more information on our Caregivers Ministry, click on the link above.
